Showers of Blessings

Last weekend we showered the newlyweds-to-be with gifts of household goodies. Pots, pans, dishes, towels, coffee pots, dinnerware, glasses, a wheelbarrow, (every man needs a wheelbarrow. wink, wink) etc. A very dear friend of ours hosted the event in her back yard and flower garden.  It was the most perfect day. We couldn't have asked for it to have been better.  There was a slight breeze in the air. The sun was shining bright. Friends and loved ones came together to show their love and support for this precious young couple. Aren't they adorable?
Kayla lived with my aunt Sonja when she first moved here from Chattanooga. One evening Sonja asked her if she was homesick and Kayla responded, "I miss my family but as long as I'm with Brad I'm happy." When Sonja told me about their conversation, it brought tears to my eyes. Wow...contentment and  happiness in the midst of major transition.  How easy it is to get caught up in the many transitions, troubles and toils of life and forget about "being" with the One who brings true contentment and happiness.  Can we say that even though I miss my family or, I lost my job or even though I'm sick, as long as I have Jesus I'm happy?

I used to teach a song to the little children at church that went something like this:
"I'm happy in the Lord anyway. It really doesn't matter what comes my way today.
I'm gonna wear a smile hold my head up high and say. I'm happy in the Lord anyway." Shirley Cantrel

If you're like me and you tend to lean a little to the worry side of life, then maybe we need to work a little harder at leaning on Jesus instead.

Joshua 1:9  "Have I not commanded you? Be STRONG, and COURAGEOUS. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord YOUR God will be with you WHEREVER you go."

Don't you just love that? Wherever we go!

Take heart!

Until we meet again.  Felicia

The Nest is a Mess!

Today I am starting a new adventure. Blogging.  Why not?  It's not like there isn't anything else going on in my life. Right?  My oldest child, Brad, is getting married in just a couple of weeks to the most lovely young lady, Kayla, and my youngest child, Kristen, is buying her first home and moving out on her own.  This is the time we've been preparing for. Yes for 27 years we prepared for this time and the emotions are like a huge roller coaster ride and the conductor won't let me off.  Just as I think I have them under control he hits the go button and we're off for another up and down ride.

Last Monday it was raining cats and dogs. I'm talking serious downpours. I had a lot of errands to run in preparation for the upcoming wedding. I head out to the country to take our anxiety ridden boxer, Lola, to the kennel for the day so I will have a guilt free day to take care of business.  As I open the door to get back into the car the door handle breaks. What?  No way!  I don't need nor have time for this.  I go around to the passenger door climb across the seat and drive off.

It seems like God is telling me to slooooowwww down.  Enjoy this time. Take it in. Remember these days, It will never be like this again. I mean really, it takes time to climb in on the passenger side and slide over the console to the driver seat, not to mention nimbleness.   I'm reading a book by Priscilla Shirer titled "He Speaks to Me." She says "Remembering God's promises helps us stop our runaway emotions. Moses didn't just tell the Israelites to stop being afraid; he also gave them a reason to relinquish their fears. He said 'the Lord will fight for you.' Time and time again God tells his people that they need not fear because He himself will act on their behalf." I felt so convicted yet relieved when I read these words. These are truths that I know yet I forget to claim.

So today I'm claiming this truth. My Lord is fighting for me. I'm slowing down and taking it all in. Do you have a truth that you need to claim today?

Deut. 1:30 "The Lord your God will go ahead of you. He will fight for you..."
